Essential Oils and Aromatics is a lovely beginners introductory aromatherapy book. It provides just enough information on each topic to educate the reader, and compel him or her to learn more about this rich field. Easy to follow recipes are also incorporated throughout the book. Essential Oils and Aromatics includes over 55 essential oil profiles. Though the profiles are brief, they provide a helpful overview of each essential oil, including the pertinent information for each. Marge has not skimped on including clear safety warnings for those essential oils that have contraindications. Marge has also included brief information on 16 carrier oils including several that are rarely mentioned in other aromatherapy works.

Marge has actively participated, networked and helped others in an array of online communities/message boards/mailing lists devoted to aromatherapy. Marge has an excellent reputation for her essential oil knowledge and is known for her passionate, unique writing style. Her passion and love of this fields shines through all that she writes on the subject.

Marge Clark wrote a terrific book which has been cost prohibitive for the beginning aromatherapist until now. With the advent of the Kindle version of her book, the amazing information presented is now available to all.

Marge has been selling Essential Oils and Aromatics through her website, NaturesGift.com and is very knowledgeable and has been in the business for decades making her able to write an authoritative and excellent source book, but written in language that a beginner can understand and will reference for years to come.

A definite must-have for Essential Oil beginners and excellent reference source for those who have more experience as well.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the safe and effective usage of Essential Oils.

This is a fabulous book for beginners from a trusted source in aromatherapy. I wish I had gotten and read this book when I was first introduced to essential oils.
The first 43% of the book is a very basic intro to aromatherapy and essential oils and recipes for various things.
The last 57% is "An Alphabetical Guide to Common Essential Oils Materia Medica." This touches on their uses and gives background information on them.
Formatting FYI - I read it on my Kindle Paperwhite and some sections were formatted very poorly for that device, making it awkward to read

This book is an excellent, concise, and wisdom-packed overview of essential oils, and at under ten dollars its an absolutely amazing bargain. Read it all the way through at least once, and you'll find yourself returning again and again for a quick reference. Especially valuable are the descriptions of each essential oil, but the entire text is helpful. The author's many years of experience and study are evident on every page. This is the ultimate go-to book for solid and useful info. Not intended to replace a textbook, rather it's a great companion to the more scholarly volumes and should be in the library of anyone using essential oils in any way.

This is one of the best introductory books on essential oils and their use. It is my go-to book when I find out people are starting to explore essential oils and it has been gifted to many. The information about the various oils and their use and the suggested EO blends stand the test of time. Yes, I will be downloading the Kindle edition even though I have the first edition on my shelf.

I came to purchase this book after coming upon Marge Clark's very helpful site naturesgift dot com. I was impressed by her knowledge of different types of essential oils and her willingness to explain things on her site so we could make an educated purchase. Who knew that there were at least 2 different kinds of chamomile? And that how they extract the oils from the flowers makes them have different uses for the body? Well I didn't, so I'm glad I got her book. The chapters in the book include:

Essential oils (eo's) - outlines differences in botanical species, countries of origin, method of distillation, cultivation, production--basically telling you how to get the best quality eo for your purposes.

Carrier oils - helpful chapter, but the book leaves out a number of oils on her site that I'm interested in such as Argan Oil, Camellia Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, and Rice Bran Oil. Hopefully she expands this chapter a bit in the next edition. The dilution table at the end of the chapter is very helpful :)

Using eo's - how to prepare eo's for compresses, inhalation, diffusers, topical application, sprays; safety concerns with eo's.

Aromatherapy for mind and mood - which eo's affect what mood, along with a few recipes

Eo's for massage - how much to mix in for full body vs local massage

The aromabath - recipes for bath, shower, jacuzzi (yowza!)

Healing with eo's - recipes for skincare (acne, wrinkles), sore muscles, bruises, sunburn, headaches, sinus congestion, nausea

Fragrances for the home - recipes for things I never thought of as uses for eo's, including: living room, bathroom, and kitchen fragrances, carpet deodorizer, shoe/sneaker freshener(!), insect repellant, glass cleaner, mold/mildew remover and an general germ killer.

Alphabetical guide to the eo's and their uses - this is the most info-packed chapter, going into the best types of eo's to buy, their uses, and what they blend best with. Regarding CO2 distilled varieties of eo's, her website has a lot more info than her book does...

All in all, this is a nice book to have, full of pretty, zen-like pictures, and it has a lot of info in it considering its short length. As stated before, however, there are some things I wish she would have expanded on, such as carrier oils and CO2 extracted eo's for skincare. If it weren't for the info on her website that's not included in her book, I would have given it five stars. :)
