I don't know about you but I tend to forget to eat certain healthy foods and need a gentle reminder. This book was perfect in that regard. Simply by reading this a few times a year it will give you ideas for incorporating immunity boosting vegetables, herbs and fruits into your daily diet. This will help to prevent digestive problems, aching joints, muscle weakness, poor skin and fatigue.

There are interesting facts throughout this book like the fact that you can also boost your immunity by being more positive. I also learned that exercising too much can suppress the immune system. I will also continue to eat lots of onions because they have antioxidants which block the formation of cancer cells.

Some of the foods mentioned in this book may be hard to find. I can only find canned guavas and lychees. I also thought a few of the recipes had strange combinations like pineapple and cucumber or mint and eggs.

Some of the other recipes include:

Masala Chicken
Evening Primrose Salad Dressing
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Tropical Fruit Salad
Broiled Bananas with Lime Syrup

What you may find helpful is the ailment directory. Acne, arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, cancer, colds, depression, hay fever, heart disease, influenza, migraine and sore throats are all mentioned. Once you find the ailment you are concerned about you can then look up recipes which work as cures.

While this book is helpful in many regards it doesn't indicate that some people will have allergies to the nuts mentioned. For instance, brazil nuts can be used to cure acne but in some people it will cause acne or worse.

I think this is an excellent book that works as a reminder to eat the foods that will make you healthier. But do consult with your physician if you have any questions or concerns.

My girlfriend has had this for a while and I'm always reading it. As someone with a couple health conditions, this is a great reference to get a simple low down on various food and how they can help you.

Sure, there are more in depth books out there, but as a quick reference, the short descriptions and the friendly index help adjust your diet for certain ailments. This book is perfect for people who are just starting to get into diet and how it can improve their lives beyond just "dieting". It's short, easy to read, and comes with healthy recipes.

Of course, if you're REALLY serious, you should be talking to a nutritionist or certified doctor in homeopathy/herbology. I've seen a few western medicine doctors already and none of them even took my diet into account as part of the problem/cure. But they did blindly recommend some pills as specified from a computer. Yea health!

So the bottom line for me (IMO), see a doctor, double check with a homeopathy/herbology doctor, and get this book as the reference.

This is what it does contain:

- terse and unimaginative descriptions of 85 foods, heavily padded with recipes and admittedly large and lovely pictures (For instance: "Duck is delicious roasted or stir-fried and is an excellent source of the stress-busting Vitamin B2.")

- 19 or 20 descriptions of herbs for the immune system, again padded with large and lovely pictures and recipes: This is more interesting, but contains outlandish statements, such as stating that echinacea "is the most important immune stimulant."

- an "ailment directory," which, for instance, advocates eating beets, broccoli, mackeral, oats, etc. for rheumatoid arthritis and advocates eating blueberries, carrots, garlic, etc. for sore throat. (As authority for the recommendations, the author refers back to her own prior statements, pictures, and recipes.)

In fact, this book is just-plain-farcical. Come to think of it, I plan to return it.

This is a great primer to start with when looking for healthy foods to prepare. It's very to the point. It's also inexpensive. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't rank the foods. But maybe that's asking too much since they're all very good for you, anyway.

Made a lot of the recipes, there is nothing I don't like about this book.
I am thrilled with my little book. I try to incorporate these numerous foods into my diet. There are a lot of foods in here. There are vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs, fish, meat and more.
