Renowned prostate cancer specialist Sheldon Marks offers the definitive guide for men concerned about or diagnosed with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting American men, with over 186,000 new cases diagnosed in the United States annually; 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. He received his training at Tufts University, the New England Medical Center, and the Mayo Clinic. He lives in Tucson, Arizona. Библиографические данные.

Prostate cancer has become the most-diagnosed cancer in America and the second leading killer of men. Sadly, more than 189,000 men will be diagnosed with the disease in 2002. Dr. Sheldon Marks, a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, is the authority that many have come to depend on-both in his practice and through his book, Prostate and Cancer-when cancer has posed a threat. Now completely updated and revised to reflect the latest research in drug therapies and treatments, traditional surgical techniques, "minimally invasive" techniques, and methods to combat impotence and incontinence, Prostate and Cancer is more essential than ever. Dr. Marks has been praised for his user-friendly question-and-answer format and his ability to cover everything from who is at risk and what is involved in an evaluation to options for treatment. Indeed, Prostate and Cancer is the definitive source of information on prostate cancer today and has long been recognized as such by the recommendations of readers and urologists alike.

The information here is seriously outdated and really needs to be updated. I would hesitate recommending this to anyone with a diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. Too many advances have been made in several fronts. My advise is, research, ask questions, ask more questions. Seek a second, third and forth opinion and make a careful decision that you can feel happy with and not regret.

Best of luck in find the answer. You can also search for local support groups in your area.
When you're told you have cancer, a tornado spins into action in your head. You stop hearing what the doctor has to say. "I have cancer," you keep repeating. You can't think about anything else for days or weeks. In his book, Dr. Marks explains this very serious, sometimes deadly disease in the same manner as if he were talking to you in his office—with a six-hour appointment and no interruptions. He explains every detail of the disease, it's progress, and all the methods of treatment so you're not left wondering, "What's next?" I went into the book a pretty scared (old) dude, as I'd been diagnosed with a "very aggressive, high grade cancer," with a Gleason score of 9 (if you don't know what a Gleason score is, the book tells you). Dr. Marks' explanations calmed me a bit, and gave me the needed information to listen to my doctor and really understand my position. The book delves into all forms of treatment, their side effects, and the reasons to do one over another. By reading through it all, I was able to talk treatment options over with my doctor in a more objective frame of mind. I can't recommend this book any higher—if you're concerned about prostate cancer for yourself or someone else, you can't get a better reference.
This is a MUST READ for any man or family of a man that has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The book is an easy read that asks and answers everything you ever wondered about fighting Prostate cancer. I read the book after my diagnosis and then bought a copy for my mother and the local public library!
Outstanding read!!! If you or anyone you now has Prostrate Cancer this is a must read. I gave my copy to a friend and will buy another in one minute for reference. It covers every aspect of this devastating disease.
Great book. Written for patient and their family. Full of good information on which to work with doctor when developing treatment plan.
Would love it' if it were possible to love a book about cancer.
My husband was recently diagnosed. The info in the book mirrored what the urologist and radiologist explained. Thanks.
As an advance practice nurse, found information clear. My husband read also and gained a lot of information.
I wish that the other would right another book that takes off from this one, for those that have a stage 4 prostate cancer that has matasticized to other organs in the body. Unfortunately my the time the urologist recommended this book to us, we had already learned that my husband's cancer was not the "usual type" of prostate cancer and that it had already moved to his liver as it was a very agressive "Small Cell cancer" which was also fairly rare.
If you find yourself dealing with Prostate Cancer with a family member or a friend, this book will make the most important details about this cancer clear. It is well written for non-medical people to understand what someone with prostate cancer is dealing with. Well written. Great information. It helped us be able to talk to doctors and surgeons with more confidence.
