This is an excellent book and a "must read" for everyone who has diabetes or who plans meals/shops/cooks for people with diabetes. I am a registered dietitian who works in an endocrine clinic and I also have a private nutrition practice. I recommend this book to all of my patients/clients with diabetes. So many people with diabetes think in terms of can't eat this or can't eat that. It's time to think about what you can eat as well as debunk the myth once and for all that people with diabetes can't eat any sugar. This book was updated in 2007 and contains everything you need to know to eat well to manage diabetes. Also covered in the book are the lastest summary recommendations of the American Diabetes Association's 2006 updated medical nutrition therapy guidelines.

Given my husband's health situation, I do a lot of research on nutrition. This is yet another confusing publication that turns things on the head we are being taught in the local diabetic diet seminar. With all this conflicting information out there, it appears that a lot of people are putting things out there that have not been well researched. This is one of those publications. I also do not like the "interview style" that starts off each chapter - very boring writing and not really factual a lot of times.

BAD INFO IF YOU ARE DIABETIC and wish not to be so much. This is very obsolete and harmful information imo.. We MUST reduce or ideally eliminate most carbs to be healthy with diabetes. I just read Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes, highly rec for more up to date info on understanding how glucose is absolutely derived from the foods we eat, so it is entirely misleading and bad advice to say a diabetic can eat sugar; sure but not without dire consequences which can be entirely avoided and life improved incredibly. It is now clear to me that the industry, including most clinicians, are entrenched in keeping people on drugs and this will not cease as long as medical schools are influenced so much by the pharmaceutical companies pushing their profit agenda via medical student training. BAD advice in this book, maybe the worst. Diabetes CAN be greatly diminished and often even cured in many cases now by a ketogenic diet, so much for diet doesn't affect blood sugar or diabetes - in fact most can stop their insulin use in just a few weeks by just stopping carb intake. It is not an essential nutrient like fat and protein, and feel SO much better, stable moods, stable energy, stable bank account.. This is outdated, horrible advice that unfortunately some will fall for..
