I picked up a copy of this while visiting Voyageur's National Park. The park is spectacular, and as I read this book in my lakeside tent, it completed the identity of this place, and clued me into the history not only of how it became a park, but more importantly, the resident flora, fauna, and geological processes. It's more than a scholarly work, it resonates deeply on the human connection to wild places.
