So, let's face it, to western readers this is an obscure topic. To Indonesians, I believe it is sort of like The Cultural Revolution is in China, traumatic but mesmerizing.
Soekarno is enjoying a rebirth. Western liberals have to adore him, he was after all anti-American in the age of Vietnam Nam (albeit for his own reasons). Western liberals have to detest Suharto (for totally valid reasons).
Understanding Indonesians is hard for a westerner.
This is an interesting book , about an interesting and tragic time.
