His many books include "Spain's Centuries of Crisis" and "From Heaven to Earth. In 2007, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and selected as one of UCLA's Distinguished Teachers.

I have only just started reading this so I probably shouldn't be posting a review. It is a very concise history probably meant for undergraduates. I am finding it extremely interesting and have already ordered two book in the list of "Further Readings" which Winks provides at the end of the book.

Easy to read and very informative.
A pretty good book overall.
