I am a firm believer in the power of preparation in determining later success and this is a great overview of the role and responsibilities for anyone considering joining the officer ranks of USN. Relatively quick read with lots of concrete suggestions and a nice further reading list - highly recommend!

If you are reading a lot of material about what to expect about being a junior officer, then this should be the first thing that you read. The material is basic but is incredibly efficient in what it seeks to convey to the reader. The writing is concise, which makes the material accessible later on as a good reference text on how to handle PCS moved and other general advice.

Recommend buying and reading this before you ship to OCS--it's full of practical advice on Navy community, tradition, leadership, career management, etc. Good basic reference tool.

Bought this for my son's Naval Officer Commissioning. The book idea is great but the binding wasn't sturdy. I had everyone who attended write something on the inside pages. After 4 people the book had pulled away from the cover. I wanted it to be a lifetime keepsake but disappointed it fell apart before we even have it to him.

I found the information that I was looking for. The shipping and price for the book was relatively ok. I will refer others to it

Too much fluff. It has some good info but nothing you wouldn't otherwise figure out or have a brief about.

This is a great guide for any newly commissioned Seamen you may know. Every professional Sailor should have this by their side at all times!
I just commissioned a few months ago and wish I had found this book sooner. It is a great addition and start up guide. It will not tell you everything ,but it will get you started so that you know what questions to ask. I recommend this for anybody who just commissioned or is about to in the navy.
