Well written by a guy you can't help but love and admire for his good humor and resourcefulness in extremely difficult circumstances. He paints a grateful and compassionate portrait of his many rescuers.

If you are into escape and evasion this is a true life and quite unusual tale.
The story gives you a real glimpse of how painfully difficult life had to have
been for the French and for those they aided during the war

Teare's whole story is absolutely astounding. His very survival in occupied France gives us an opportunity to visit a part of history that is seldom seen. It is written like a story, so it doesn't feel like a typical history book that endlessly lists facts. I honestly couldn't put this book down and read the entire thing in one day. Plus, it has an uplifting ending - which is a plus given the circumstances and events of the war.
