In this regard, Little Known Wars is similar to the old Ballantine series of books. These visual additions are a great complement to Axelrod’s verbiage. Additionally, throughout the book he adds dozens of inserted paragraphs that provide the reader with more background on the conflict under discussion. In summary, Little Known Wars of Great and Lasting Impact is a special book, highly informative, with the ability to tie the past to the present. I greatly look forward to Axelrod’s next volume. Based on his track record, I won’t have long to wait!

Little-Known Wars of Great and Lasting Impact: The Turning Points in Our History We. .The Civil War and the two World Wars are much better known to Americans, but the Spanish-American War was no less important, as it established the United States as one of the world's great powers.

The book looks like it might be interesting, but some of the wars chosen don't really seem to fit the title, in that they're only little known if your sole benchmark for comparison is World War II. It starts off, for example, with Boudicca's revolt. I'd probably also pick the Boxer Rebellion.

More of a cursory look at the wars - I have to go into the internet to find a broader history. But not too bad.

AFter reading only a few chapers, I would give this one a 5-star rating. Full of fascinating, little known facts. Written in an interesting way.

What kept me from giving this book another half star was the fact that Axelrod has events taking place in the US that in reality took place in Canada. Not only does this undermine his idea that we must step out of our usual patterns to obtain greater understanding of the world, it makes me think that there might be inaccuracies throughout the rest of the book that I may not know of. Plus, as a Canadian, it just irks me! Otherwise, an eyeopening read.
