2,000 Years of Christ's Power is a wonderful portrayal of church history and theology in the first five hundred years of the church's existence. Needham has been both a professor of church history and systematic theology, so he brings a wonderful balance of engaging and informative historical writing, as well accurate and well explained presentations of the theological issues and controversies that occurred in the early church. The writing style is easy to understand and follow.

Each chapter focuses on general periods of time, emphasizing major church figures, major political figures, world events, church growth and practice, and theological development and controversies. Major people, works, and events are in bold. The end of each chapter has a review of key figures. One of my favorite parts is that the end of each chapter also includes several excerpts from writings or figures mentioned in the chapter. The end of the book also has very helpful glossary that explains key figures, events, and theological issues.

Overall, this has become one of my favorite history books for a survey or for reference. I would recommend it to everyone who wants a easily understandable but also accurate portrayal of the history of the church and the advancement of theology.

This book series is the standard when it comes to church history and theology over that time. It includes letters, songs, and other works by the key figures discussed in each chapter at the end of each chapter. Needham seems to be very fair and balanced. This book is a must have for anyone who desires to understand the beginnings of the church as well as the deep systems of division and their formulations.

Historically comprehensive, easily readable and organized for the average person who wishes to learn Church history. Dr Needham has recently (Dec. 2016) re-released his Church history books—Parts 1-3 and has added Part 4. These prices are more reasonable; costing less then $30.

This was a great book. I was so pleased with the thoroughness without it containing unnecessarily lengthy sections. I highly recommend it for biblical scholars.

Written in an easy to follow and understand format. Yes, filled with many names and historical events but interesting, especially for the investigative Christian.
