Gina Cascone will admit to being the older of the two "twisted sisters", but she's says Annette is more neurotic. Their first published work was a parody on Cliff's Notes study guides called "JUMP OFF THE CLIFF NOTES". Annette will admit to being more neurotic, but explains that her psychoses come from growing up with Gina. Their youngest sister, Elise, just knows they are both nuts. If you were ever been forced to read a long boring book that was written decades before your parents or even great-grandparents were born, you'll love this parody on study guides and the "classics". In 1988, their first film was produced.

Titles ridiculed in 'Jump Off the Cliff Notes': Animal Farm, Crime and Punishment, The Grapes of Wrath, Les Miserables, Moby Dick, The Scarlet Letter, A Tale of Two Cities, and more... Learn the Classics without reading the books! We've often wondered why certain books are assigned as required reading 50, 75, 100 years after they were published. Our best guess is that no one can yet understand them! Countless generations have read these books a gazillion times and there are now at least five types of study guides to the classics. We think it's about time we put an end to this cycle of madness. So take a giant leap into finally understanding "the classics" with JUMP OFF THE CLIFF NOTES. It's all here... Little known facts about authors! What was that special relationship between President Franklin Pierce and Nathaniel "Peaches" Hawthorne? What goes down? See Hester Prynne in 'The Scarlet Letter'! Review Questions! Who is the ass in 'Animal Farm'? Pop Quizzes! Who said "Stop dat dam smackin' ob de lips"? Extra Credit! Who said "Hooray for the gold cup of sperm oil, my heros!"? Plus the exclusive, "Favorite Books of the Rich and Famous"... With, Madonna and 'Dress for Success' and Richard Pryor and 'Fire Starter'. JUMP OFF THE CLIFF NOTES is a perfect companion to any study guide. You'll dazzle your friends, neighbors, parents, teachers, plus other peer and authority figures with your stunning grasp of books they never read either!

Do you find sophomoric humor distasteful? Do parodies of "Animal Farm" and "Grapes of Wrath" set your teeth on edge? Do you love Charles Dickens?

This book is NOT for you.

That being said, I can think of no better gift for that English professor with a sense of humor than "Jump Off the Cliff Notes--A Parody". I first ran across this book about 25 years ago at a small independent bookstore in the Midwest. I had to constantly restrain my laughter as I found page after page of SCATHING parody (a picture of the Joad family with everyone picking their nose, even the donkey, a plot summary of "Animal Farm" set to "Old McDonald had a farm", and Moby Dick...well, PC values aren't in play here). I hesitate to give ANY of it away, but the authors clearly had issues with Charles Dickens. Of special interest are caricature line drawings of 1980's A-listers and their favorite tomes (Madonna in one of her on-stage getups, reading "dress for success').

Your college-age literature student will get a kick out of this; your high-schooler will consider this a "read under the covers with a flashlight" selection. Enjoy!

Funny and educational, but if you are a purist, do not open!

I bought this book back in the 80's when we were reading The Scarlet Letter and The Grapes of Wrath in sophomore English. After we had read each novel and completed our papers and tests, I would read aloud the "Jump Off the Cliff Notes" version. The entire class was howling with laughter and falling out of their chairs, including the teacher.
So as for the "sophomoric" humor comment, I'd have to say that was spot-on. However, I still look through it occasionally for a good laugh. There are some seriously funny jokes in there that I did NOT get at that age.

I can't wait to pass this one on to my kids. A true classic in my eyes. Sometimes ya just gotta laugh... Especially when you've just delved into something deep and dark like the books covered in this little jewel.

Somewhere, I have a copy of this side-splitting parody. Few books have made me laugh as much as this one; the jabs at Charles Dickens, especially A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations, will have you rolling on the floor.
