I have bought this book in order to improve my skills in the Turkish language and to get a more indepth view into the Turkish culture over the past times.
Nasreddin Hoca is a famous character in the whole near east, non Arabic world, a man who really existed about 700-800 years ago somewhere in Turkestan. Although certainly not all of his anectodes can be proved to be of his own source, he has become sort of a myth in that area and is a symbol for all what is naive, simplicity, intelligence, stupidity, goodheartedness but also doubleface and cunning, depending on the story he is implied in. The stories are short but give you an insight or the oriental world of past times.

Pretty funny stories in here. If you like to have a good laugh, Mulla Nasreddin is the man for you. There is a free edition provided on Amazon that has less stories and is in English for you to sample. That was what led me to getting this. This version is written in Persian, so make sure you can read or have someone else do it.

I am a student of Persian and have found this book to be an excellent source of short stories that are both enjoyable and relatively easy to translate. The binding is sturdy and the pages are heavy and durable, (Important if you're going to make lots of notes inside!) All the vocabulary I had to look up could be found in the Hippocrene Standard Persian-English Dictionary, also available on Amazon.

There are many (600) short stories. It is good that you get the point quickly but it is not a story books that you want to read for a couple of hours. It contains points, notes and discussion on many subjects.
Glad I found this collection for my mom to read and laugh.
