Detective Constable "Dangerous" Davies is the central character in a series of comic novels by Leslie Thomas and a TV series, The Last Detective made for ITV and starring Peter Davison. The first novel in the series was also made into a film for television in 1981. It starred Bernard Cribbins and was scripted by Leslie Thomas. Davies is a low-ranked CID (mentioned as a detective constable at least once) officer in the London borough of Willesden

I loved the Dangerous Davies TV show and I really enjoyed the first book and somewhat the second, but the last two books were of far lower quality. The characters and plots were less interesting and the steady drumbeat of disrespect and bad luck for Dangerous got monotonous. As much as I am indebted to Leslie Thomas for imagining this character, I really can't recommend the last two books. They were so slow that I actually began to not look forward to continuing them and just kept reading to be done.

A continuation of the whimsical solving of major and minor crimes by Dangerous aided by his Welsh drinking mate.

Readers;
If you have seen the BBC series on 'Dangerous Davies" and a curious of the book, stay with the TV show.
The book is barely literate, wanders hither and yon, and in one place, a character was developed, and then dropped, for no reason, tho its inclusion would have improved the book. And the books were written in the 1970, so it is fairly dated.
If you can buy a copy for a dollar at a yard sale, do so. Other wise, forget it

Not quite as good a story as the three that preceded it but a "must have" to complete the Dangerous Davies series.

I first read “The Complete Dangerous Davies” and thoroughly enjoyed the three books it contained. I later discovered that there was actually a fourth and final book in the series, “Dangerous Davies and the Lonely Heart”. This book follows along with the same characters as the other three books, in the same style. Contrary to what another reviewer said, this book was written in 1998. I have never seen the BBC adaptation so I can’t comment if the books are better or worse. All I do know is that I enjoyed spending time with these characters and found the stories interesting.
