Great author. Saw the PBS Series many times, which I've loved and wish didn't end. What is so enjoyable is that the book makes the PBS series last longer. It's a treat to savor. I will look for more that this author has written.

I've seen the DVD and enjoyed reading the book (the DVD followed the book very well).

Love this book and the film adaptation - suspenseful, quirky characters -- a kind of mystery road trip -- indeed Oliver's Travels are just that and enjoyable for the reader (or viewer of the movie series to follow along).

I thought the series on PBS was great. It is a good enough story that I am going to retrace their trip from Southern Wales to the Orkneys. The book runs very close to the series and gives all the places they visited on their way north. Ergo it is a travelogue. The book has more of the character building and more descriptions, which makes it more fun and rounds out the characters. As far as which word bests describes the book I and split between Light-hearted and Suspenseful. It also is somewhat convoluted which is one of the things I like about a BBC series like this.
