A Passionate Man: The Logans were an enchanting and admirable couple. Archie had snatched Liza from her own engagement party to someone else, wooed her, swept her off to his father in Scotland, and finally married her. Now bedded firmly into country life - three children, Archie the village doctor, Liza a teacher, everything comfortable, funny, affectionate - they awaited the arrival of Archie's father, the brilliant Sir Andrew Logan, a widower for over thirty years. Joanna Trollope was born on 9 December 1943 in her grandfather's rectory in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, England, daughter of Rosemary Hodson and Arthur George Cecil Trollope. She is the eldest of three siblings.

A Passionate Man' was no exception. I read Johanna Trollope for comfort when the rest of my life seems too complicated
A Passionate Man' was no exception. The story of an unusually close relationship between adult father and son, and what happens when the father remarries and then dies held me rivetted from beginning to end. As with Joanna Trollope's other books, one finds oneself feeling somewhat bereft when the book ends and dying to hear of the next phase in the lives of the characters- a testament to the quality of the writing. I read Johanna Trollope for comfort when the rest of my life seems too complicated. This book fills that need - it is familiar and comfortable in the JT formula - but hardly stimulating or great literature.

Because you're a ma. 'Alice,' Richard said, 'I don't think you know very much about men, or you wouldn't say such a thing.
Because you're a ma. Do you trust me?' She thought.
Sir Andrew had bought it out of a mild nostalgia for the tall red sandstone houses of his Glasgow youth, because it was on the first floor of such a building. But he had had little aesthetic eye for. his surroundings, and, since the building was heavy with competent Edwardian stonework and joinery, he had been satisfied, untroubled by the gaunt height of the rooms and windows. He had observed the solidity with pleasure and was impervious to the atmosphere. The atmosphere added to Marina’s suffering.
The Men and the Girls. Joanna Trollope. The Logans were an enchanting and admirable couple
The Men and the Girls. Julia Hunter and Kate Bain have found true happiness with men old enough to be their fathers. The Grey House is the final piece in the jigsaw of Alice Jordan's perfect life. It seems to be the ultimate achievement of her outwardly happy marriage - a loyal, if dull husband, three children, two cars and now the house. The Logans were an enchanting and admirable couple.
