It was Lava and Kusa who sang it first in Ayodhya and then in Rama’s assembly. After that it was just passed on as oral tradition from Guru to Sishya. Only recently (in 19th century onwards) these books were actually printed. I personally prefer MyPustak for any book I want to get. Books here are free, only a nominal shipping cost is charged.
