I was struck by the YA/adult book distinction and overlap recently, when I published my newest novel, The Interestings, a full thirty years after Sleepwalking. Like my first novel, this recent book has a group of adolescents at its core, and it takes their lives seriously and hasn’t been considered YA.

Meg Wolitzer many hundreds of pages, all tied up with twine. He looked at me and said, Do they know you’re coming?. I said yes, they did. Then he said, proudly, They don’t know I’m coming!. I sometimes think about this moment, which dates back not only to the start of my life as a writer, but also to a different era in publishing

I can't believe that MW wrote this book so young. There has to be a wisdom of the very talented that goes over the head of us ordinary people. One wonders if MW knew herself how good she was already then. One begins the book with the three " death girls" and one thinks so what, many adolescents go trough phases...is this so interesting? Am I to learn/ understand something more about it at the age of 70 ? Slowly the story begins to unfold and the deep reasons begin to get apparent. There is nuance and psychological truth served with finesse and the picture gradually gets coherent . Parents and children, the power of the feelings not expressed, the distance and the closeness of different generations of the same family. It is a story about grief not expressed. I found the book magnificent.

I've read every book that Meg Wolitzer has written. I've loved them all, including this one. What humbled me about this book was that she wrote this when she was in her early 20's, something that attests to the mastery of her craft. The characters are vulnerable and resilient, something that spoke to me in particular. I felt as though I was sitting in the room watching the story unfold.

One of my favorites from my tween years- Even better to revisit it as an adult.

very interesting book. A pleasant surprise, and a wonderful first book for Meg Wolitzer.

Maybe you have to know depression and grief to really get this book. It touched several places in me. The plot was very believable.

I really wanted to like this book, I really really did. The book was okay, I found the writing style to be dull which is why I wasn't a huge fan of the book.

It was odd.
"Sleepwalking" a novel by Meg Wolitzer provides a wonderful, sensitive set of interlocking stories of quitting, persisting, and love..Wolitzer' words, simple, clear, vibrant make pages fly.. The events at first seemed implausible, then I realized that the story had power in simultaneously being surprising and universal. Powerful. On the Gerald Rosen scale I give it a leaves me feeling "stronger". Thank you Meg Wolitzer!
