I think what makes "Bouncers and Shakers" very successful plays is that Godber and Thornton manage to use satire and mock society, regardless of social standing.

Bouncers 1990s Remix. I think what makes "Bouncers and Shakers" very successful plays is that Godber and Thornton manage to use satire and mock society, regardless of social standing. While they are predominantly comedies, both plays provide moments of sadness, thoughtfulness, and tenderness, all of which create wonderfully developed characters in this excellent modern play.

About the play ‘Bouncers is not so much a play as it is a social phenomenon’ The Guardian

Lucky Eric, Judd, Les and Ralph are the original men in black as they tell the tale of one night in a Yorkshire disco in the 80’s in this outrageous parody of Saturday Night Fever! All the gang are out on the town, the boys, the girls, the cheesy DJ, the late night kebab man and the taxi home, all under the watchful eyes of the Bouncers. You’ll be rolling in the aisles’ The Daily Mail. Bouncers is not so much a play as it is a social phenomenon’ The Guardian. One of The National Theatre’s ‘Plays of the Century’

John Godber's pulsating play about four north of england disco - doormen is a fast flowing social comment on nightlife in the UK. Laced with tremendous one-liners, Bouncers demands that four actors play the part of up to two dozen characters from lads out for a good night to girls having a Friday night on the town. Hilarious, thought-provoking and incisive, Bouncers is a good read and a superb play. Particularly appropriate for college and youth groups.
