Chapter I. Still waters.

Author of The Lamp in the Desert, The Hundredth Chance, Greatheart, etc. 1919. Chapter I. Rufus the Red sat on the edge of his boat with his hands clasped between his knees, staring at nothing. His nets were spread to dry in the sun; the morning's work was done. Most of the other men had lounged into their cottages for the midday meal, but the massive red giant sitting on the shore in the merciless heat of noon did not seem to be thinking of physical needs. His eyes under their shaggy red brows were fixed with apparent concentration upon his red, hairy legs.

Ethel May Dell was born on 2 August 1881 in Streatham, a suburb of London, England. Beneath her shy exterior, she had a passionate heart and most of her stories were stories of passion and love set in India and other old British colonial possessions. They were considered to be very racy and her cousins would pull out pencils to try and count up the number of times she used the words: passion, tremble, pant and thrill. Pictures of her are very rare and she was never interviewed by the press.

My grandmother stared me reading this author. These are sweet stories of a time none of us still living can truly encompass. These stories are a glimpse into the lives of an idealized time long past. If you remember that these books were truly written for a different world, you will enjoy them greatly. Please try them for yourself. I do not believe that you will regret it.

The Tidal Wave and Other Stories is a collection of stories by Ethel M. Dell. Some of the stories are as long as a short novel. The Tidal Wave is a very interesting story of love with excitement and twists and turns. All the stories are love stories and are very well written and have surprises. I highly recommend this story collection.
