Heart of Oak. (Bolitho – 29). If my voice should die on land

Heart of Oak. Annotation. Author: Alexander Kent. It is February 1818, and Adam Bolitho longs for marriage and a safe personal harbour. But with so much of Britain’s fleet redundant, he knows he is fortunate to be offered HMS Onward, a new 38-gun frigate whose first mission is not war but diplomacy, as consort to the French frigate Nautilus. Under the burning sun of North Africa, Bolitho is keenly aware of the envy and ambition among his officers, the troubled, restless spirits of his midshipmen, and the old enemy’s proximity.

This novel continues to develop characters from Kent's previous novels

This novel continues to develop characters from Kent's previous novels. In fact, this is perhaps even more important than the description of sailing ships at sea. It is is fascinating for the reader who has followed the Bolitho series throughout to see old characters reappear, new ones arrive and some old ones depart.

I have got all Bothilo titles either hard copy or ebook and I think that the story line in this title seems a little disjointed and a little rushed in the last couple of chapters.

An excellent story as are all books written by Alexander Kent ( Douglass Reeman ). I highly recommend his books to anyone interested in books written in the tradition of Horatio Hornblower ( C.S. Forester ). I have all of the Bolitho series and wish there were more . I am a new customer to Amazon ,but I will be a faithful one from now on.
