Previously read as a book quite a few years ago, this time "The Colonel" was a "re-listen" to the sequel to "The General" also listened to recently. An ok story, worth the effort, but somewhat drawn-out and I was waiting a little impatiently for the end of the novel. I loved the characters and story line. It was an easy read, and constantly left me guessing who was the bad guy. I've read a number of books by Patrick A. Davis and this one doesn't disappoint!
Might be considered a "man's" read but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I like this series of Davis books and this arrived in a timely fashion so I could continue to read the series as written.
Patrick Davis hit a home run with "The Colonel". I found it fast moving, full of suspense (the butler didn't do it) and a fast read. It is worth the price.
Very good story. Kept me engaged and guessing till the end. I just found the author and look forward to his other books.
Interesting book with fast action. I particularly like the character development. I am only about half way through the book.
The Colonel is a cross between Patricia Cornwell and Tom Clancy, and I loved every minute of this fantastic military thriller.

From the beginning, you can tell that the author Patrick Davis has either done an enormous amount of research into the inner workings of the military, or he has been in the military himself. The latter is the case, and so The Colonel is filled with a wealth of acronyms that the military is famous for, along with many other realistic facts, that make the book, although a work of fiction, entirely plausible.

Martin Collins is called in to help investigate the homicide of Colonel Margaret Wildman and her two children.

Nothing makes sense as Martin, his partner Amanda, and his friend Simon begin to follow the leads in this case that lead them from the Pentagon, to the inner chambers of the Congress elite, to the CEO of a major airline manufacturer.

All clues point to the murder of Colonel Wildman because she knew too much information. Specifically, she knew that the popular G-626 aircraft had a major flaw, but with thousands in service, the cost to dismantle the airplanes is too great. This leads to a cover up where it seems that everyone is involved. From the FBI, to the government, to the military, and private corporations as well. All have a hand in the cover up.

As Collins gets closer to the truth, he also gets closer to having his own life in danger, with a group that will stop at nothing to prevent the truth from coming out. The Colonel will keep you guessing until the very end.

The Colonel was the first book I have read by Patrick Davis, and I am looking forward to reading more. It was a great read, had me on the edge of my seat, and captivated from beginning until end.

I received this book for free from Spencerhill Associates for this review. My opinions are my own.
I started this book with great trepidation. Any book with the title 'The Colonel' had to be lacking in some department or another. At least thats how my thinking went until I became engrossed in these pages. The plot surrounds the brutal murder of an investigator of air force planes. Her job was to look into air-craft and see if they were sound. As the story progresses, we learn more and more about this situation and it really is both at the same time compelling as far as pushing the story along and ever more outlandish as far as conspiracy wise. I think that this aspect of the story both intrigued me and caused for my review to get notched down to just four stars.

The main character is Marty, an investigator who works as a consultant on military homicides. We follow him as he interrogates an ever more elaborate set of characters. You are never sure just who is in the wrong here or where the story is going. A couple of characters that help Marty along are also important. One is Simon Santos who is a character that mightily reminds me of the slick genius from Douglas Preston and Licoln Child's series of books. Simon knows everything, is wealthy, and a mysterious character to say the least. Also, Patrick Davis gives us an assistant to Marty, a young officer who prides herself in her ability and prowess.

All in all, this is a very fun book if just to see where it might be leading. Its worth reading.
