An interview about david'S CIVIL war novel 'sharpshooter'

An interview about david'S CIVIL war novel 'sharpshooter'. Q. Where did you get the idea for SHARPSHOOTER? A. I wanted to write a Civil War novel that was different from others that have mainly been dramas set against the backdrop of the war. To do this, I began to ask myself a lot of "what if" questions - such as "what if" the South had tried to assassinate General Grant. What I came up with was a story about a very personal war.

Published in 1892, Crane's book-written by a man born after the Civil War ended .

Published in 1892, Crane's book-written by a man born after the Civil War ended-quickly became, and remains to this day, the finest novel written about that conflict. The Civil War,like any part of the past, is as much what we make of it as it is what makes us. Enter thirteen-year-old Willis Carr almost exactly a century later, the narrator and protagonist from the hills of Tennessee in David Madden's novel, Sharpshooter.

1864, General Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Potomac is positioned across the trenches from the remnants of General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. One major Union campaign will put the Confederate capital into Yankee hands. Lucas Cole is the best sharpshooter in the Confederate army, his skills as a sniper almost legendary. Now Cole has been assigned to his most challenging mission yet-and General Ulysses S. Grant is his target. With the help of a female Rebel spy, Lucas Cole will attempt to alter the course of the war with a single bullet. Using an artfully planned seduction, that spy will try to clear Cole's line of fire. And with all his might, one man will fight to prevent an assassination that could ensure Confederate victory.

A good read, however it is the same story and plot as Winter Sniper, another of his books. There is just a change of names and 80 years earlier. This disappointed me because I just finished that book and then read this one. Healey is a gifted writer and I enjoy his writings greatly and will continue to read his books--

Dan Healey's alternative fiction is generally believable and thus are enjoyable. They have the added benefit of being readable. He has the sense to employ an editor. Thank you Mr. Healey, for writing responsibly.

Though the plot was similar to one of David Healey's previous books, I had fun reading it. This is an action packed easy read.

If you bare in mind that Sharp Shooter is historical fiction a reader will enjoy this fast pace book, I know that I did. I also enjoyed David Healeys' other books but this is my favorite.

Much more believable. We'll paced and adequate parallel plotting to maintain interest. Military history and arms add an instructive element.
