Bloodfire
I love James Patterson and have read everyone of his books. I, Michael Bennett was such a disappoinment. You get to the last page and think "What the hell just happened, did my Kindle drop some pages." You don't know how the books ends. How long do we have to wait for a sequel. Not fair to the Patterson readers!!

Detective Bennett becomes involved in investigating a Mexican drug cartel leader, that has world class training, both in business and has developed an attitude of unconcern, as he believes himself greater than the common folk.
During the investigation Detective Bennett manages to chase the suspect and apprehend him, and in so doing, witnesses the suspect killing someone to enhance his chances in order to get away.
The suspect's organization kills the presiding judge of the trial and the manages a daring escape all on the orders of the suspect, as he corrupts anyone around him.
An excellently written book from a well known writer.

As a devoted fan of the Michael Bennett series, I was disappointed in Book 5. Without giving away the story line, suffice it to say that Bennett's pursuit of a maniacal drug lord goes from one implausible situation to another.

I also thought this book lacked much of the warm and endearing aspects of his family that characterized the earlier four books.

I hope that the next book in this series gets back to the things that made the series so special.

I look forward to James Patterson's books and have read almost all of them. And I've liked them all (don't read the teen series) - "The Women's Murder Club," "The Alex Cross Series" and "Michael Bennett."

Imagine my excitement when I received my Kindle book. I could almost taste the excitement, especially in light of the characters in this series. I agree with some of those who've written that it was slow but it picked up steam and suddenly when you reach the end, THAT'S IT! No ending....just a lot of regret and sadness! And the reader is left "steaming and fuming." You're not even given the option of information re: another book to follow this...

This is all I can say: :( :( :(

James Petterson and Michael Ledwidge, have struck gold once again. What horros lay between the pages of their new book, I, Michael Bennett? From the very begining Mexican drug lord has Bennett and his family in his sights. They and his loved ones have become a target of "get out of jail free." A trial begins in the federal court house in New York only to have the judge murdered in front of the prospective jury and the defendant. Does this defendant, Manuel Perrines, aka: The Sun King, just how far will this man go to get out of jail? Bennett's nanny, Mary Catherine, leaves the Bennett house hold, but why? Is she jealous of Tara the prosecuter for the federal government? How far will The Sun King go? The Bennett's family goes on their annual two weeks vacation near a town that if just out of control with two murderous gangs that rule the area. Bennett's two boys are shot by whom? Has the Sun King paid to have these two young boys murdered? These and other question lay ahead of you, the reader. This is a book that you cannot put downs until you have read the finale page and then, how can this be the end? Don't miss this book. DP

more James Patterson fluff!

It had actually been a while since I read a Michael Bennett book and this was a nice dip back into the Bennett's world. I'm still amazed by their having an apartment big enough for their family on the UWS, but I also liked that this book was also taking then out of the city. I felt bad for MB, but I also found myself angry with him. He fouled it up with Tara and Mary Catherine. At what point does he learn?

Some of this was surreal to the point of being unrealistic -- a breakout on the 14th floor of the courthouse? Boys running away with girls who happen to be tied into the Latin King thug charged with a hit on them? But I read it. I always do. The cliffhanger with the next book was a interesting twist and I look forward to reading the new one as soon as it's out to find out how their time in Witness Protection goes.
I don't have the issues that some other reviewers did about the ending. I don't see it as cheating at all.

One thing Patterson and his co writers do best is the sympathetic older characters: Nana Mama and Seamus. I like them as much or more as the main characters

I have liked all the Michael Bennett books from James Patterson, however this one left me irritated. I stuck with the drawn out chapters as I usually do because I look forward to hearing about the Bennett children and the rest of the clan. I am getting a little tired of Mike playing hard to get and wish he'd either get with getting with Mary Catherine or at least take up some of the offers he gets every single book. It's getting very old and unreal how he is turning down - as discribed - totally hot women. Doesn't MP and ML know how to write a decent love scene? Perhaps they need to introduce a woman writer into their writing... As I said, I stuck with the unrealistic scenes where Mike by-passes the hottie, and tragic but not really well written part of the kids getting shot. The story line here was quite weak...what I cannot get over is the, what is being described as, the cliff hanger. TO me, all that means is they failed to finish this book. I don't like unfinished story lines. I hate when movies end this way and even more when a book does. For ruining my book reading experience I give this book 3 stars.
