This was a quick read and kept me interested. The plot was easy to follow but not dull. I would reccommend this book to any reader who likes westerns.

This episode is set in Nebraska in 1861.Ploson,Nebraska is located in Mission Valley, south of Flathead Lake, supposedly the largest body of water between the Mississipi and the Pacific Ocean. When I read these westerns,I like to look up these locations.I didn't have any luck finding them, and as far as that big lake goes,I guess it is fictional ,along with the rest.I do believe Great Salt Lake is by far the greatest body of water west of the Mississippi.
Fargo is asked to go to Polson and find out what is going on there, with Mike Durn and his gang of goons who are taking over and attempting to set up his own empire.
Fargo soon finds that the worst fears are well underway and he decides ,even against unsurmountable odds,to take on Dunn, and put an end to his plans.
Fargo soon finds that this task is even much greater than one imagined. It results in a great story, filled with interesting characters, and that Mike Durn is so evil that he makes Al Swearington ,from the TV series "Deadwood", look like a sunday school teacher.
We have never seen our hero,The Trailsman, brassier, undaunting and determined than he gets in this episode. He shows no fear against Durn ,even taunting him unmercifully, never mind being, held in captivity.Fargo takes several beatings, and on more than one occasion, even lets his guard down and gets captured;something not normal for him.Heck,no matter what they do to Skye,he doesn't show the slightest fear that he won't bury Durn,no matter how bad his situation becomes.
The last part of the story has Fargo facing one of the most violent threats of death that he has ever come across.A big part of the story involves Caesar,Durn's captive Wolverine. We never hear much about this amnimal. It is one of the rarest mammals in North America, and the least known of the large carnivores. It is in contention to becoming an Endangered Species, and they believe there may be only 5 or 10 per 500 square miles in the mountanous areas. You may want to look it up on the net.
I've read a lot of these Trailsman novels, and I have no qualms in saying this is one of the best, and yes, even the most violent of them all.

It's been said, that there' only two themes in Western novels:

A man went on a journey
or
A stranger came to town

This is definately the latter.

This is another Trailsman by an unknown (to me) author. And the writing is similar to several other recent books.
Fargo is a detective or investigator?
Indians are mistreated and women and drunks defend them against the bad guy.
I just started reading this book and there is a good plot, but it seems to be overwhelmed by liberal feelings and expressions that belong in the 1960s, not 1860s.
As usual, I expect this will be a good plot with some good characters and the good guys will win. It's just too bad these "secret" authors don't think and write like skilled and knowledgeable Western authors.
