Murder Most Royal is Jean Plaidy's best and most unforgettable work. It may not be as colorful as something written by Philippa Gregory, but Plaidy has an amazing way of humanizing historical figures so the readers feel they are living the events in the book and not simply reading a novel.

Murder Most Royal is Jean Plaidy's best and most unforgettable work. Although the book is mostly about Anne Boleyn, it also includes naive little Catherine Howard who lurks in the background awaiting her tragic fate.

Murder Most Royal book. I realize that Plaidy takes creative license with most of her books, but this one was really not correct historically. I rated it to low because I’ve read so much about the great Queen Anne that I just shook my head too much. The other beheaded queen, and Anne’s cousin is discussed in this book too, and I’m not sure that age wise that’s even possible.

In the court of Henry VIII, it was dangerous for a woman to catch the king’s ey. .Her younger cousin, Catherine Howard, was only fifteen when she was swept into the circle of King Henry. Her innocence attracted him, but a past mistake was destined to haunt her. Painted in the rich colors of Tudor England, Murder Most Royal is a page-turning journey into the lives of two of the wives of the tempestuous Henry VIII. I enjoyed the book. A long read with interesting background stories and thoughts attributed to the characters. I knew the outcome of the story, of course, but the stress, tension, and thoughts of the characters was interesting. Jean Plaidy books are always interesting, IMO.

This book was recommended to me by a fellow Goodreads member and a fan of Medieval Historical fiction. I had already read other accounts of Ann Boleyn and her life with King Henry VIII but in this novel the author takes time to delve into the character of the King. It was well know that King Henry VIII had beheaded more than one wife and that knowledge would undoubtedly cause one to wonder why and/or how a man, even a king, could do such a thing. This novel gives insight into the man’s mental instability and that man being a king who believes that his position is ordained by God. Fascinating! Although slow, this is a great read.

This was a great historical novel. Though we all know Anne Boleyn was married to Henry VIII & was beheaded, most have no idea just how hard it was not to lose one's head in those days! Any small infraction, real or imangined, could put you in the tower. For those who love history but don't want to read history books, this book is great. It is written as a novel & many liberties taken but the actual events are factual. i found it totally fascinating.

A thorough and very long book. Sometimes well-written, sometimes superficial. If you don't enjoy reading about torture, as I don't, I would not recommend that you read this book.

I can overlook small errors in a novel. However, the vivid descriptions of the torture chambers made me have to skip over some parts.

That out of the way, this is a very well written and haunting novel, although it takes many liberties with history, such as Anne and Catherine meeting. But I do not mind liberties like this taken as it is fiction after all. We get a good feel for Anne and Catherine, as well as Katharine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves. I truly felt Henry's court come alive for me in this book. 4 out of 5 stars, but not for the squeamish.

Another really good read from Jean Plaidy - a very interesting angle on Henry VIII.

This book may seem graphic to some. I'll admit that the torture of Mark Smeaton was hard to read at times. I read this novel years ago, but even the second time around it has not lost any of its magic. Jean Plaidy is just a master storyteller. Absolutely brilliant!
This book brings to life two of the tragic wives of Henry VIII. The characters are vivid, and you feel you are there in that time period. A well written story.
