The book arrived in good shape and in a timely manner. I'm giving it a 4 star because the subject matter is interesting to me but not for Caitlin Thomas' writing. Dylan Thomas' and Caitlin's life together is fascinating in the same way a train accident would be and the drama is not so far removed. While Dylan was the true poet, she is, by far, the more interesting character. Unfortunately, Caitlin tries to write in the style of Thomas although she hasn't the talent. She is most effective when she writes a direct, simple sentence. Nevertheless, she conveys her message, although I believe she was still enjoying the "double-drinks" when this book was written. There are huge gaps in her stories. While she claimed being raised in poverty , this does not explain the French governesses and riding lessons. I subsequently read her biography by Paul Ferris and her sister, Nicollete's book, to fill in the gaps. Read Double Drink and the rest for the whole story.

How anyone could call this boring I cant comprehend. Its a difficult book to read as its completely honest and tells the trials a woman alcoholic faces. Her love for nature and horses as a young girl, her love for her two sisters, all of it makes it a wonderful read.

Avoid this book at all costs. Quite apart from the fact that it seems to have been ghosted (given the hyper-literate account on offer here), the book is an extremely boring and repetitive account of Caitlin's utterly boring life. If you have ever been bored to death by someone sitting beside you on a plane journey, someone who insists on telling you every last detail of his life, you will understand what it is like to plough through page after page of tiresome egomania.
