Harris began publishing his stories in the Atlanta Constitution in 1879 at a time of great interest in the South and in freedmen.

The private library wasn't as we think them to be in the early years of common use. This description of these former dwellings for historical and religious times fascinated me. My ultimate design lies somewhere between a cloister and a modern one.
