.........and self-discovery. Emotions by Timmothy McCann is a lesson on "things happen for a reason." Why do certain folks come into our life when they do?
Both Joi Weston, actress in the autumn of her acting career, and Michael Brockmier, an author in a musician's body trying (seemingly unsuccessfully) to live up to other's expectations, are two people who are instantly drawn to each other upon first site. Joi, however, is "happily married"....at least so she proclaims. Nonetheless, the chemistry is so strong, these individuals come together inspite of it all.
While Brockmier is in NYC dealing with the perils of the publishing industry, Joi is down in Florida trying to determine how to obtain some of her true passions as she aproaches 40 yrs. old. Can she be content as the wife of a politician (which is not too far from being an actress)....or, is L.A. calling her name to pick up on her acting career?
What I liked about this book is how the author was so vivid in his descriptions that it was more like watching a movie instead of reading a book. I also thought it was special to read about someone who was in her 40's; her thought processes, fears and dreams.
Inspite of all the pain, sorrow and soul-searching decisions Joi (which rhymes with star) has to deal with, you see a woman who realizes that no matter what age, we are always evolving.
This story tells us that sometimes we learn more from our adversities than we do our successes. This was a smooth, thought provoking read. One that's great for book club discussion, complete with a readers guide at the end. Check it out!

Not quite the chip off the old block would best describe the writing skills of Michael Brockmeier II. Cursed with the same name as his father, a famous writer, Michael decides to follow in his father's footsteps. The unfortunate part is that he does not have the same talent everyone expects him to possess.
Enter, Ani, a recluse writer, who wants no part of the fame and fortune of the literary world. She and Michael concoct a deceptive scheme that will give them both satisfaction.

Joi has starred in Hollywood for a number of years and is now
living in Florida with her husband and supporting his political career. There are terrible problems in this marriage, but Joi continually confesses that she loves her husband and wants her marriage to last.

Though they led distinctively separate lives, a chance encounter brings Michael and Joi together. There is an attraction between the two of them that keeps drawing them together. Things happen that will change their lives forever.

Michael's story was very interesting and could have stood on
its own, because Joi could have been anyone. There is a
good cross of narration and dialogue that makes the story flow well and gives the reader the inside track about what makes Michael and Joi tick. I think this is one of Tim McCann's
best work.
This is one I would recommend for your summer reading.

What is your purpose in life? What would you do to become and/or remain successful? And lastly, what lengths would you go to handle the emotions that every day life throws at you?
In Timmothy B. McCann's fourth book, fittingly titled Emotions, he takes us on a journey to discover what makes us who we are. He introduces us to Joi Weston and her husband Phillip Evans. Joi is a beautiful ex-sitcom star with dreams of being in a feature film. Phillip is an ex-producer with his sights set on a political career. What happens when Joi's dreams are shattered and she returns home to play the dutiful wife role with crochet needles in hand?
Stage right we have Michael Brockmier II, a sexy, dread-wearing, wanna-be writer living in the footsteps of his deceased father--an author bearing the same name and immeasurable talents. Can Michael meet his father's accomplishments or does he simply use his father's name to rise in the literary world? Perhaps he doesn't need to because on the outskirts, we have Ani, a reclusive, talented writer with whom Michael becomes embedded in a web of lies. We also bump into Joe, Joi's womanizing, yet supportive brother and Pam Wilson, editorial assistant at Charisma Publishing Company and childhood friend of Michael. Lastly there is Michael's son Blair, who has been abandoned by Micheal's ex-wife and dropped at Michael's doorway.
This colorful cast of characters experience one triumph after another intermingled with heartache, betrayal, love, lust, and honest revelations about themselves and those around them. What happens when Joi's world meets Michael's and how does Ani play into Michael's dream of following in his father's footsteps or does he even want to at all? Also, how does Phillip feel in the background of his wife's success and will there be trouble in their 18 year marriage once Ani and Michael meet? How do Joe, Michael, and Blair contribute to this story and how does each of the characters deal with their emotions as they discover who they are?
McCann has written yet another novel that demands your attention and draws you into the world of fiction. And, though I didn't necessarily like the ending, this book is heartfelt and touching with a touch of hope and holding out for the real deal. It makes one go back to my original question: What is your purpose in life?
