A number of Titanic’s passengers had been booked to sail on another White Star Line ship, Cymric. However, there was a coal strike in 1912. His parents were married in Liverpool in 1861. Miners in Britain were striking to get a national minimum wage. Coal was taken from smaller White Star Line ships and loaded into Titanic so that she had enough fuel for her maiden voyage. Passengers who had already booked to sail on the Cymric were transferred to the Titanic.
