Ron Padgett (born June 17, 1942, Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an American poet, essayist, fiction writer, translator, and a member of the New York School. Bean Spasms, Padgett's first collection of poems, was published in 1967 and written with Ted Berrigan. He won a 2009 Shelley Memorial Award. In 2018, he won a Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America. Padgett’s father was a bootlegger in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Padgett is the author of over 20 collections of poetry, including Great Balls of Fire (1969, reissued 1990); You Never Know (2001); How to Be Perfect (2007); How Long (2011), a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; and Collected Poems (2013), winner of the . He has collaborated with the poet Ted Berrigan and the artists Jim Dine and George Schneeman.

Ron Padgett - Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 17, 1942, Ron Padgett was elected as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets in 2008. He has also published a volume of selected prose titled Blood Work (Bamberger Books, 1993), as well as translations of Blaise Cendrars' Complete Poems (University of California Press, 1992), Pierre Cabanne's Dialogues with Marcel Duchamp (Viking Press, 1971), and Guillaume Apollinaire's The Poet Assassinated (Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1968). Padgett is the recipient of the 2016 Harold Morton Landon Translation Award for Zone: Selected Poems by Guillaume Apollinaire (NYRB Poets, 2015).

Ron Padgett was born in Tulsa in 1942. With Ted Berrigan and others, Padgett reinvented the New York School of poetry in the mid-1960s. Also a distinguished translator of modern French poetry, he has published 15 books of his own, including Great Balls of Fire, and has been honored by a Guggenheim and an American Academy of Arts and Letters poetry award. Padgett lives in New York City.
