We judge other worlds on our own terms, as it were. The book in my hand can be its own result, judged on its own terms as an object

We judge other worlds on our own terms, as it were. To some extant, this is inevitable: it is virtually impossible to step out of your own eyes. As far as selection, the book takes a delightful approach, going for geographic and linguistic breadth over depth. Five Nordic lands are represented: Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. The book in my hand can be its own result, judged on its own terms as an object. The question isn’t, What would this have done for me had I been a native Swedish speaker reading this in Sweden, but rather, What does this collection of English poems do for me now, as it is and as it stands.

An Anthology of Contemporary Nordic Poetry. Scandinavian poetry, Finnish poetry, Translations into English.

It presents works by seventeen of the most prominent writers born in the 1960's and 70's from five Nordic countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. Recently added by. JEEmerson, misteraitch, rlunday, YESterNOw, CircumpolarStudies, IanBourgeot, jbuggin, poempire.

It was first published by Pellegrini & Cudahy in 1949. Fowler Wright.

The anthology is large, with 1,100 pages in each of the two volumes. Volume I, about modern poetry, and Volume II, contemporary poetry. Essays on poetics are included in each volume.

The newly titled Norton Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Poetry n. The Norton Anthology of Modern & Contemporary Poetry, Vol 2: Contemporary Poetry. by Jahan Ramazani · Richard Ellmann · Robert O'Clair. Although several biographers have thrown themselves into the breach since this magisterial book first appeared in 1959, none have come close to matching the late Richard Ellmann's achievement. To be fair, Ellmann does have some distinct advantages.

"The whole object of travel is not to set foot on a foreign land," wrote G.K. Chesterton, "it is at last to set foot on ones own country as a foreign land." Such is the effect, too, of reading The Other Side of Landscape. Working simultaneously under the influence of foreign poetries and thousand-year-old native traditions, this inspired collection explores the poets "Electrical I"as editors Stochholm and Sumarithat gives the reader a sense of wonder for the familiar, an "electrical eye."

The Other Side of Landscape is a collection of seventeen Nordic poets as influenced by modern and post-modern techniques as by pan-Scandinavian mythology. It represents the largest and most comprehensive collection of modern Nordic poets ever for an American audience.
