I understand why previous reviews were so negative about Simon but I saw him differently than the way he came across. I think he was always in love with Sophie but it took a while for him to realize that he had crossed from thinking of her like a sister to something a lot more. Sophie was extremely likable throughout the entire book. I absolutely hated Bathsheba and was very surprised that she has her own book. I will read it because Vanessa Kelly is such an excellent author I trust she will end up making me like her. But right now, I am grudgingly about to get started on it.

I got interested in the relationship between Sophie and Simon while reading "Mastering the Marquess" and looked for this book. I enjoyed reading about how their relationship develops from Simon being the caring big brother and Sophie the little sister who you have to watch out to the adult relationship where they can't keep their hands off each other. Simon needs her (or rather a portion of her dowry) to complete a business deal and he isn't adverse to the idea of having Sophie as well. Sophie doesn't need him until he starts being intimate with her. As she has always loved him, it then gets very hard for her to say no to him.
I liked Sophie, she's very naive but then again she's been sheltered from all that is horrible by her loving family. I liked how she gains a social conscience and acts, though impulsively, on it. I liked Simon, even if he didn't come clean early on and tell Sophie the other important reason for marrying her. Simon seemed a bit bossy, but I didn't find him overbearing. He does redeem himself in the end, and tells Sophie just how much she means to him.
Thank you, Vanessa, for not giving Simon a quizzing glass and a snuff box (the way you gave both to the Marquess of Silverton in "Mastering the Marquess"). It would have been such a disappointment if Simon looked like the guy in the cover and went around using a quizzing glass and snuff box (sounds too effeminate for me).
What I liked about this book is that the action didn't just happen in and around parties, dinners and walks in the park. The book touches on the poor, the workhouses and the seedier part of Bath.
I'd read more of your books, but the story of Bathsheba, unfortunately doesn't interest me. I'll definitely keep an eye out for the upcoming The Renegade Royals series.

I really loved this book and I totally don't understand the negative reviews. For me the writer made it clear through some brilliant writing that Simon loved Sophie from the beginning, even if he didn't recognize it was love. He was just being a typical guy with his insensitive behaviour at times. I found Sophie cute and caring even when she didn't think things through properly!

I so loved this book that I went through it quickly again after I'd finished it, re-reading some of my favourite parts!

Vanessa Kelly's books are hard to put down, read the whole series

Simon is a fabulous Hero and a perfect counter to Sophie's impetuous and compassionate character! On top of that add that he has been her childhood white knight in shining armor. She has loved him forever and he has only noticed her need of rescuing almost daily.

I think Vanessa has spun a wonderfully romantic web with this one! The emotional attachment is felt and unlike other books where the Hero broods and mopes over finding himself in love with the heroine-Simon simply just misses all the signs. The moment he makes the connection-we do too. The secondary characters are well placed and help their story unfold beautifully. (Lady Randolph is truly a bitch and it was indeed very difficult for me to picture Simon ever being with her--ugh-yuck)

Annabelle and her brother Robert are good emotional support for Sophie, they seem to understand her impulsive and passionate nature.

keep up the good work. I will enjoy more from you in the future Vanessa!

I was surprised by some of the negative reviews of this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a good plot, memorable characters, and held my interest till the very end. Ms. Kelly, I look forward to your next book! I'm actually hoping Becky gets her own story. :-)
