For the readers who didn’t forget. As a kid, Daniel had pored over travel books. He’d soaked in everything he could about places he feared he might never see. Chapter One. Folks there called it Missoura. Daniel Sinclair used to call it Missoura. Now he called it Missouree. Sometimes he thought that if he hadn’t read those books, he’d be like everybody else in Egypt -complacent, almost smug in that complacency. The people in Egypt didn’t think about what was going on in the rest of the world, what they might be missing. People were always reaching for more.

Chapter One Folks there called it Missoura. That pretty much summed up his status in the small town of Egypt, Missouri.

This book was just as well written as all the other Theresa Weir books I've been binge-reading lately but I must say that it left me with a foul taste in my mouth. I loved the heroine and I love how Theresa Weir's characters are not perfect but the hero of this book was too much. One thing in particular made me cringe and that was how he semi-raped the heroine because he felt she deserved it (he thought she was a con artist). Really? Really??!

I also disliked the way he behaved at the end. I felt so sorry for the heroine who was at her last straw, struggling with a whole range of mental issues and the hero just makes it worse with his terrible behavior.

I've loved everything I've read by Theresa Weir and I really wanted to love this one too (which was why I gave it three stars and not one or two) but it honestly gave me the creeps.

(I'm a total fan of Weir/Frasier, and I highly recommend her PALE IMMORTAL; the only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the book isn't perfect. It's only mostly perfect.)

Samhain Publishing's reissue of Bad Karma is a chiaroscuro of romantic suspense with a nice contrast between Cleo's and Daniel's dark, even tragic pasts and the lighter goofiness Daniel's brother Beau and Police Chief Jo bring to the story.

Weir has great pacing -- there's never a good place to put the story down! -- but I also adore her talent for description that doesn't feel like description. I feel myself in the scenes, experiencing the textures, the smells, and the emotions of the characters.

"He stared at her with spoon-bending concentration." Ha! isn't that a great phrase?

I classified this as magical realism as well as romantic suspense. There is a fantastical element to Cleo's experience. Does she or doesn't she time-shift? (I think she does.)

This is definitely a romance, but not out of a cookie cutter. I couldn't figure out how Cleo and Daniel would resolve their relationship, another quality that kept me going to the last page.

I am a fan of Theresa Weir's thrillers published under the name Anne Frasier and was excited to read a rerelease from her romantic suspense career. From page one, I was captured by Weir's exceptional ability to grab the reader with entertaining characters and couldn't stop turning the pages. She sets a distinct spin on a woman's psychic ability that keeps the reader guessing, with individuals who are uniquely imperfect.

Daniel Sinclair and Cleo Tyler deal with painful secrets, and are portrayed with a honesty that is refreshingly different. These are characters you find yourself rooting for until the very end. Bad Karma is a cool paranormal suspense with killer description and awesome characterization. I hope to read more Theresa Weir books in the future!

I had never read TW before and was happy to find that I can add her to my list of authors to look for. I found Cleo endearingly imperfect, with her self doubts and her atypical eating disorder. Also, I never would have expected the hero of a romance novel to have the added dimension of wanting to be a guardian for his mentally challenged brother; it adds depth to the story. Both of these characters made for good reading with a different, attention-getting twist. I'm happy I bought this book. If you're looking for a new perspective on love stories, try it.

Her characters, both men and women, are heart-achingly broken--as I think we all are, in one way or another.

Her stories make me sad and happy at the same time--perfection!

I've never read anything by Theresa Weir before, in fact, I'm not sure how this made it onto my wistlist, but I'm glad it did.

Although Bad Karma's initial plot, town sheriff hires psychic to find the town's missing master key, seems somewhat fluffy, the characters in this book are anything but... Cleo is damaged and suffering from a crisis which ripped apart her life years earlier. She wants to believe that her so-called powers are fake, but are they?

Daniel, who has just returned to town to take care of his brother, *knows* Cleo's powers are faked. And he definitely doesn't trust a woman he believes used the publicity of a missing child to hunt for new clients, but unfortunately for Daniel, he can't take his eyes of Cleo, and he soon learns that there's more to the woman than just her eccentricities.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. Even though there were parts where I didn't like Cleo, and even Cleo didn't like Cleo, the plot flowed through those sticky bits, and by the end she had earned her second chance. It was definitely a lot more serious than I anticipated (my own fault for not reading the entire description), but it was a great mix of the light and the dark, fun and angst.
