Another exciting book from a very prolific writer, this one in the black hills of South Dakota on the land that used to belong to the great Sue Nation Indians.
The setting is a couple of young children on fairly large farm and ranches. As the kids grow up they begin having feelings for one another and develop a relationship that wanes after the male decides to go to New York to attend the Police Academy, while the female goes to college to become a Doctor in animal care with a specialty in large cats, traveling to several laces around the world as she obtains her expertise.
Upon her return home to the animal preserve she and her family have established she finds the man she was in love with, 10 years earlier is back working on his grand parents farm.
Their relationship begins to grow again slowly as she is reserved as she feels he left her long ago. He feels their love has always been the same.
Enter a psycho that believes he is a descendant from the great Indian Chiefs and that anyone living on the land is desecrating it and deserves to die. The psycho believes that he has inherited and trained himself to be an excellent tracker, and in fact hs already killed several people through the area.
The story line runs through major disturbances at the preserve caused by the psycho and focuses on him deciding the female doctor need to die and would be an exciting challenge for him to hunt and kill.
The hero comes to the rescue with the aid of one of the big cats from the preserve and ends up saving the doctor.
As usual with this writer the book is enjoyable reading and maintains the ability for the reader to stay interested in the book, weather reading straight through or at a leisurely pace. It is easy for the reader to become involved again and never lose the theme. Overall an exciting book.

Wishamac

I seriously read this is less than 3 days. Great story line. I personally love stories that intertwine with animals and this was a beautiful representation of just that. Of course there is a level of romance in her books, and I thought this one had just enough to not pull focus away from the main objective. The story was all about sex and that was a nice change from other popular authors. The ending was just awesome and legitimately gave me goose bumps and almost brought me to tears. Great, great story and the audio narrower has a sexy voice that just made the story come alive. Love, love, love it!

Great story! Nora really researches her subject mater and develops her characters back stories. This story is a great one between a woman, and her best friend, and her first love which is animals, and her new love, who was her best friend.

Lil achieved her dream of having a wildlife refuge. She put everything she had into it. All the animals there had either been owned by people who no longer wanted them, mistreated them, or were orphaned. Her pet was a cougar called 'Baby'. She had tried to release Baby back into the wild three times with his orphaned siblings once they were old enough. Baby always came back. Baby loved Lil.
Many deaths were turning up in the Black Hills. Not discovered until Lil's old boyfriend and old lover, Coop realized that a man had set his sites on Lil and hurting her. While doing what he does best...detective work..he discovered a pattern of death going back twelve years. Now, Lil was in the madman's sights and Coop was not going to let anything happen to her.
Lil didn't understand why anyone would choose her. There are always people upset about refuges, but hers was always the best in care for the animals. None of her animals were ever mistreated.
This was a suspense story that will grab you. Learning about an animal refuge and how it works is fascinating. To hear the stories of how the animals came to be residents are amazing. Add the usual Nora Roberts type romance and you have a book that will keep you turning the pages to the exciting end. A good read.

* I Do Most Definitely disagree with some of the other reviews here on this book ...it's Not a waste of paper Nor is it Boring! I liked it Very much Couldn't put it down!

One of my favorites by this amazing author! Lil Chance and Cooper Sullivan meet as children one fateful summer that sets the course for the rest of their lives. Like all of NR's heroine Lil is a strong person in her own right, and makes her own mark in the world as a wildlife biologist specializing in Big Cats...especially cougars. Coop is an ex-cop with bitter family issues who returns to the only place he was ever happy...his grand parent's horse ranch in the stunning Black Hills of South Dakota. This book has murder, mystery, romance, and a special cougar named Baby who will steal your heart. One word of caution...the cover copy mistakenly states that Lil's pet cougar is killed, but I assure you Baby is safe. I highly recommend this book!
