Three twenty-something women, one hot rich guy, two mega movie stars, and a devastating murder: Poor Little Bitch Girl has it all.

Denver Jones is a hotshot twenty-something attorney working in L.A. Carolyn Henderson is personal assistant to a powerful and very married Senator in Washington with whom she is having an affair. And Annabelle Maestro—daughter of two movie stars—has carved out a career for herself in New York as the madame of choice for discerning famous men. The three of them went to high school together in Beverly Hills—and although Denver and Carolyn have kept in touch, Annabelle is out on her own with her cocaine addicted boyfriend, Frankie.

Then there is Bobby Santangelo Stanislopolous, the Kennedyesque son of Lucky Santangelo and deceased Greek shipping billionaire, Dimitri Stanislopolous. Bobby owns Mood, the hottest club in New York.  Back in the day he went to high school with Denver, Carolyn and Annabelle. And he connected with all three of them. Frankie is his best friend.

When Annabelle’s beautiful movie star mother is found shot to death in the bedroom of her Beverly Hills mansion, the five of them find themselves thrown together . . . and secrets from the past have a way of coming back to haunt everyone. . . .

A new, sexy, and explosive novel from perennial bestseller Jackie Collins.

The story seems interesting enough in the beginning, but it quickly gets worse. I've never read Jackie Collins, and if all of her books are this style I definitely won't be reading them. The story was promising, but it was also very predictable. The characters didn't have any depth, and the book was pretty big considering everything was super rushed in the last 100 pages or so. The writing seems very juvenile, the slang she used when she wrote from the perspective of a gang member, and while reading it I felt like I was watching a movie with bad acting. I do not recommend this book. I'm not sure why it took me so long to realize I didn't like it, but I wish that I had figured it out sooner so I wouldn't feel obliged to read it.

I enjoyed this one more than I did its predecessor Drop Dead Beautiful even though Lucky was hardly in this one at all. Of course, the book wasn’t about her. Not crazy about the title, or how most of the book is written in third person and then for the character of Denver it is written in first person, which is awkward and makes things a bit confusing when switching. Why was this done? Is the author trying something new? I can’t figure out why when she has a formula that works. If it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it. And what is up with so much telling rather than showing? The epilogue summaries leave much to be desired. I’d rather have the characters tell me what is going on, but that is just me.
Overall, the story moves along rather quickly, but is not as tantalizing as the synopsis suggests. Looking forward to finishing reading Goddess of Vengeance and then the Power Trip and then I’m all caught up with Ms. Collins books to date.

SPOILER ALERT: I did enjoy the characters of Bobby and Denver and was glad to see that they get together in the end and wonder what happens next to them.

Jackie Collins brings us another novel in the Santangelo series, though Lucky only plays a peripheral role in this one. Instead, this story is more about Lucky's son Bobby and his old friends and acquaintances from high school.

One of Bobby's buddies is Frankie, the coke-addicted boyfriend of Annabelle Maestro, another classmate and the daughter of movie star parents. Frankie and Annabelle, perpetually short of cash despite Annabelle's generous allowance, have started their own exclusive call girl business, arranging "dates" between beautiful, sometimes famous women, and rich men. All is running smoothly, until Annabelle's mother, Gemma Sommers, is found murdered, and she and Frankie have to leave their business in Frankie's cousin's hands while they travel to LA for the funeral.

Since the spouse is always a suspect, Annabelle's father, Ralph Maestro, hires a defense attorney immediately, and one of the members of his legal team is Denver, another old classmate of Bobby's. Denver is a hard worker on her way to big things, but when she is sent to New York to collect Annabelle, she finds herself distracted by the handsome men she keeps meeting, and eventually wonders if she's really doing what she wants with her life.

Denver's best friend Carolyn works as an assistant to a senator in Washington, and is also sleeping with her boss. She's in love, and certain that it's only a matter of time before he leaves his wife for her. When she finds out she's pregnant and shares the news, she is convinced a happy future is on the way...until she gets kidnapped under suspicious circumstances.

As always with Jackie Collins, the action moves from character to character as the plot is woven, and there are a few ironic twists and turns. While not as good as her last book, this one was very readable. I would have rewritten the painfully wooden dialogue between Bobby and his sister Max, and the author should note that attorneys have assistants, paralegals, and clerks, but NOT interns, but that is something her editor should have caught. Per the usual, Jackie Collins has delivered a fun romp that happens between New York, LA, and Las Vegas with plenty of delicious scandal along the way. Definitely a fun summer read.

I thought I would give JC a try as I know just how popular, prolific and multiple selling she is. I thought I'd see just what all the fuss is about and turns out... not much. Cardboard characters spouting uninteresting and unimaginative dialogue that does little to flesh them out, little attention to locale or atmosphere and an overall reliance on clothes, labels and champagne to indicate a type of people but not WHO they really are makes this read lighter than a souffle but nowhere near as tasty or satisfying.

Poor little bitch girl. Jackie collins. This book completely pulled me in. For me, it was a quick read. Done in such a way that I couldn't put it down and had to know what happened next. It switches points of view all surrounding the murder of a megastar Gemma Summers. From her estranged daughter Annabelle to her husbands lawyer who went to school with Annabelle and a few people in between. All the stories intermingle beautifully. Really well written. Murder. Humor. Drama. Pinch of romance. Perfect summer book!
