That is until he gets a call from home as his mother calls him back.

Starting with the Jordan Poteet mystery novels, these were more traditional fare as they based themselves around the activities of the eponymous protagonists rather strange family. This then moved onto the Whit Mosely series, which tended to deviate somewhat in that they had a darker and more thriller oriented edge to what came before. That is until he gets a call from home as his mother calls him back. Going there he finds he dead in her kitchen along with a hitman waiting there for him.

Twelve-year-old Jordan Poteet and his best friends decide to ride out a hurricane in a tree house. When high winds frighten them down from their perch, they run for home and discover a dead body on the way. It is presumed that the young girl died as a result of the storm, but later events cast some doubt on this conclusion.
The story continues in the present with the 12-year-olds now in their 30's. One of them is returning home after deserting his wife and son. Upon his return, his buddies begin to show up dead. Concern grows as the killer seems to get closer to Jordan and his remaining friends. Abbott's conclusions are never simple, and the dysfunctional family lives of Jordan's friends are exposed during the course of his investigation. This is another well-written book by a talented author.

More people die around Jordan Poteet than in the vicinity of Jessica Fletcher. And, the absence of more books in this series might be due to Mirabeau turning into a ghost town as a result of the volume of fatalities. But, I'd still buy anything in the Poteet genre as long as there are bodies to stack up.

This is one of the better ones, with a fine lattice of plots and characters. There is no pause in the action and you are kept guessing with a plethora of clues. Throw a log on the fire, pour yourself a fine vintage and prepare to be entertained by Abbott.

I love all of Jeff Abbott's writings. They keep you on the edge of your seat in every one. I especially love his Sam Capra series. I just can hardly put them down when I have to do something else!!

I really liked this book...well developed characters and it moved right along. However, the editing was terrible, with strange words as well as misspelled ones. Also, quotations were often left out or missing. The poor editing interrupted the continuity of the story as I tried to guess what a word was supposed to be or who was talking. I have heard others complain about the editing of books on Kindle but this is the worst I've encountered.
I have had the privilege to know Jeff's family and I have read all of his books. this may be one of my favorites because I know these characters from my life - they are that real.
