Mark Billingham's Detective Tom Thorne is one of the best characters you will read. He makes human decisions and some of his decisions and actions are wrong. Read all the DI Tom Thorne novels in chronological order. Each book stands alone, but connects to its predecessors and makes you hungry for the next in the DI Tom Thorne series. It's a side of London, we never hear about -- real people.

A pretty good story but there were a couple of times that strained plausibility and that is what led to my 3 star rating. Interesting premise but, at least for me, a really good story never makes you stop and wonder if anyone would do what is suggested. Two times, one an escape the other the ending gave me this kind of pause. Not so much as to ruin the book but enough to rate no higher than 3 stars.

This was my second Billingham mystery, the first being Sleepyhead. Without revealing any plot, I really enjoyed both. Billingham truly has a unique, choppy style of writing that I find interesting. If you are not in the mood for this kind of writing, it really draws one in. I plan on reading all of Billingham's mysteries. I just don't think they will disappoint.
Mysterious Wrench
Billingham has plotted a crime thriller worthy of the genre, and planted enough red herrings to keep the reader hooked to the final chapter. The grit and gore of crime fighting is balanced by an appreciation of the toll it takes on the detectives and the novel is peopled with utterly believable characters.

enjoying the development of this series and how the main character developes though out the series, I started this series as I enjoy both Zoe Sharpes - Charles Fox and Lee Child's - Jack Reacher and enjoy getting to know the main character within the stories. If you enjoy a good detective series then look at this.
