As with most of Wilson's books (including the novels), this is framed by his desire to understand human consciousness, and his delight in what we already know of the extremes. I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. I wish Wilson had written a few more. One person found this helpful.

He also wrote widely on true crime, mysticism and the paranormal, eventually writing more than a hundred books.
