The Matlock Paper book. I hadn’t read anything by Robert Ludlum for a few years, but this book reminds me why I liked his works so much. It also reminded me why it has been a long time. Let me explai. udlum, more than any of his successors in the thriller genre, could really write a dramatic scene well with twists and turns, and this book was very dramatic.

Praise for Robert Ludlum and The Matlock Paper A sure winner. As a result, despite the fast pace, I never felt the kind of tension that comes with a good Ludlum book

Praise for Robert Ludlum and The Matlock Paper A sure winner. fast paced, suspenseful, and bound to keep you turning the pages. The Denver Post A 110% story all in overdrive. Ludlum writes better and better. As a result, despite the fast pace, I never felt the kind of tension that comes with a good Ludlum book. THE MATLOCK PAPER will keep you turning the pages, but I don't feel it's up to the standard Ludlum usually sets. There are plenty of worse books you could read, but I can't really recommend this one.

Matlock doubted that the town of Carlyle would fill them in; there were too many other commercially traveled streets still showing the effects of the New England freeze. iage house, he slowed his Triumph to barely ten miles an hour. The bumps were jarring, and he wanted to reach Herron’s house with little noise. Thinking that Jason Greenberg might have had him followed, Matlock took the long route to Herron’s, driving four miles north on a parallel road and then doubling back on Herron’s street

This book was excellent. The plot was really developed between Matlock and gov't. Kept your interest the whole read. Another good example of great writing. Carl Clause

I've read a lot of Ludlum's other books. Some of his early works, i.e. RHINEMAN EXCHANGE, GEMINI CONTENDERS, OSTERMAN WEEKEND, are among my favorites. By comparison THE MATLOCK PAPER, another early effort, is somewhat disappointing.

The story is based around an eastern college campus. Matlock, a popular local professor, is tapped by the FBI to infiltrate a crime conspiracy. Like any Ludlum story, there's plenty of action, but the plot was predictable and some of the story elements (especially the local mafiosi and the campus black caucus group) struck me as pretty corny.

In my judgement, it's a mediocre three stars.

Until his passing a dozen or so years ago, Robert Ludlum churned out several books, each of which I read with enthusiasm. Although his books all follow a similar set-up, prosecution and finale, the characters, venues and objectives are sufficiently different to make each a pleasure to read (this comment does not apply to books written since his passing under the guise of "Robert Ludlum's ......").

Robert Ludlum has been around more more years than I can remember.
The first book I read of his was so intriguing that I could not put it down!
He has done it again with the Matlock Paper.
I knew I would not be able to put the book down until I knew who done it.
Great book

This was the first Robert Ludlum novel I read in the early 70s. I bought it as a lark because of the title of the book, and enjoyed it very much. I bought this copy for my son's birthday because of the title.

Was not as good as the Bourne trilogy. Still it was better than most of the novels written by others in his name. When I start a Ludlum novel I like to check the history of the year before he wrote it. This often gives me a political context that makes the books more interesting for me

Terrific
Good story until some pretty gruesome events start to happen. Lost interest then.
