Home Timothy Zahn Deadman Switch. But even as I opened my mouth, the quiet reminder of why I was working for him in the first place drained the defiance away.

Like me, Zahn writes a lot of space opera, and he's most famous for his Thrawn series of Star Wars novels. But he's been writing a long time and has some great other stuff as well. His Quadrail series (Night Train to Rigel, Odd Girl Out, etc), in particular, is a great read. Recently, I heard about another of his books, Deadman Switch, which features spiritual themes.

The vehicle’s exterior was in such bad shape that it made me wince, but the motors ran well enough and the sucon rings seemed to hold their charge without any obvious leakage, so on balance I really. had no grounds for complaint. Perhaps, I reflected, eight years among Carillon’s wealth had spoiled me more than I’d realized. We headed off, following a barely distinguishable path that looked more appropriate for livestock than for vehicles. Calandra, I could tell, wasn’t in the mood for conversation, and I had no particular reason to try and draw her out.

But now that pride had been satisfied-now that he could see himself as doing us a favor, instead of the other way around-he could get what he'd wanted all along. You might be of some value, at that," he agreed. I'll pull some strings with the governor, see what she can do.

Society has come to terms with a mining operation that requires the sacrifice of death-row inmates.

BOOK/HISTORICAL NEWS: To mark the 40th anniversary of my departure from the University of Illinois physics program to try my hand at full-time writing (January 1, 1980), I submitted the final version of CHAOS RISING, Book 1 of the Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy.

This is complete list of works by American science fiction and fantasy author Timothy Zahn. The Blackcollar (1983). The Backlash Mission (1986). The Judas Solution (2006). Both The Blackcollar and The Backlash Mission were released in one joint novel titled Blackcollar in 2006. The three Cobra trilogies are an ongoing series of adventure novels set in a space opera future where "Cobras", augmented supersoldiers, defend colony worlds from the overbearing Dominion of Man and from the alien Troft.

Deadman Switch is a fine example of Zahn's work prior to his claims to fame of reenergizing the Star Wars universe with "Heir To the Empire". The tech level of the science is written clear and understandably while the world building involved doesn't distract from the characters. Admittedly Zahn's novel benefits mightily from a killer (no pun intended) concept. It is to Zahn's credit that he doesn't let such a promising premise go to waste or for that matter opt for the easy way out.

The story builds carefully on the premise with twists and turns both predictable and surprising. Definitely recommended.

For those into the old hard sci fic this title fits nicely. A master story teller I have really enjoyed his star wars books, so when my mother suggested this I gave it a try without hesitation. spoiler alert. The story is based around a moral quandry, the condemned guilty passed the human lie detector test and isn't guilty, sort of. Add in a religious guy who must save her!, an alien species with a quirk nature, the humans are being used, and a high stakes game where someone must die or everyone does and some hints of big money corporations and you have a heck of a book.

Timothy Zahn creates interesting worlds to visit. Complex, but real. This ones asks a moral issue and compares it to the reality of business need and greed.

Love this author--his stories are fun and different and his novels are page turners.

Not on par with Spinneret. The narrative starts to ramble around the middle of the book and its conclusion disappoints somewhat.
Well written. Spooky. Lots of twists, turns, and surprises. Tons of fun. Overall, a really enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.
