Wow, did I read the same book?

A woman who gave up a child sixteen years ago sees the girl kidnapped in a mall & gives chase. I knew who the kidnapper was by page 40. I realize that Dorrie had Lupus but was it necessary to make her so unattractive? Awful hair, 70 lb overweight & oozing sores, even in her ears. Her parents appeared to not even be human. This was a "dark" book all right & I wouldn't recommend it, to anyone.

This was a gift. She said it was an excellent read.

This could have been a five star book, but uninspired writing coupled with too many implausible coincidences took it down to a three star book. I would have given it only two stars but the character of Dorrie saved it. Kudos to the author for bringing such a brave, loving, tenacious and resourceful character to life. Unfortunately, the rest of the characters were too one dimensional to be believable and quite a bit of the book read like the author was just trying to reach a word quota. I also found it annoying that the author had Dorrie think of the villain in capital letters, i.e. "He" or "Him." I understand why the author did this, but she should have just told us, in one concise sentence, that he had taken on a god-like quality in Dorrie's mind.

Fantastic writing style and characterizations. Fascinating plot! I loved the way she switched points of view. I did figure out who the kidnapper/killer was early on.

Really liked it. That was 4 books ago, so can't remember details, sorry. I look forward to this author writing more of this type of fiction.

I like all of Nancy Springer's books. Just don't think this was one of her best. Loved the others I bought from Amazon.
