In Stuart Woods’s newest thriller, Stone Barrington enters the picturesque town of Dark Harbor off the coast of Maine, where the shocking deaths of three people have cast a long shadow over this island haven-a locale as mysterious as it is exclusive. Stone Barrington hasn’t heard from his cousin Dick Stone in years. Then an otherwise pleasant meal at Elaine’s is interrupted by the CIA with news of Dick’s death-apparently by his own hand.

Thus began my strange addiction to Stone Barrington novels. I want to say that Stuart Woods novels are terrible, because in a way, they are, and yet I keep coming back to them, and thoroughly enjoy every page of them. So, I guess I'm going to have to say that Stuart Woods novels are pretty great. Not exceptionally well written.

Maybe I am mistaken. I am trying to read these Stuart Woods books in sequence and to make sense of the backstory that winds through all of them. Some characters area carried through these stories and other characters only "appear" for brief times. Through out all the stories, Stone Barrington does some investigating or crimes, and makes love to a lot of women. This is peculiar in the aspect that it brings in a cousin of Stones and his family and makes them appear as villains. Are they? They live on an island in a bay off the coast of Maine. Stone flies himself and several of his friends up to the island to investigate. His cop buddy Dino comes along to help. There seems to be a connection to the CIA with whom Stone has been working recently. Stone helps them come up and investigate. Stone ends up inheriting some property in Maine.clearing the way for future stories based in Maine.

There is some danger and suspense.

Lance comes and to see Stone. Not with good news it seems his cousin Dick Stone and family are dead. Stone finds out his is exactor of the will and has to go to Maine to settle the estate but things are not all as it should be. Woman are bring killed and as the team gets closer to the truth the more surprise things turn up. Love the story and love Stone and the way he gets into things and comes out smelling like a rose. I loved this series and will keep on reading to I am caught up

A friend suggested this story. I'm Happy I chose to read it. The caricatures are intriguing as well as the storyline was. I intend to start reading the
First Stone Barrington book. Hopefully you will be satisfied with the story

If you like Stuart Woods's writing and characters, you won't be disappointed. They're great for escapism, and they're page-turners, but there's really nothing that you haven't seen many times in his stories: everyone succeeds well at what they do, every character has either a trust fund, a divorce settlement, or a huge inheritance. No one lacks for money or means, and Barrington has no trouble getting laid. But if you enjoyed one of these books, you will enjoy all of them.

I have become addicted to Stone Barrington books as mindless entertainment. I like to peek at a world where private planes, helicopters, mansions and beautiful, rich women are standing by in case anyone needs them. As others note Woods mailed this one in. It's a dull read. I won't repeat what so many reviewers have already noted but one minor part of the story especially bothered me. Stone's cousin is a senior CIA officer. He has a state of the art alarm system in his Maine house. Fine. When the silent alarm goes off (at CIA headquarters) and they can't reach the cousin they call the chief of the CIA New York office. Great I'm in trouble and someone 500 miles away is calling someone 300 miles away to let them know. How about having it go off someplace a little closer where someone could actually help. A minor point but indicative of Woods just not caring. CIA planes and satellite images are at Stone's beck and call (they don't have much else to do these days right?) but this time around it's just not any fun.

Fantastic. One of the best so far. Great story, Lance and Holly, Daisy and Ham all come into play. Already loaded #13. Hope it's as good as this one.

Stuart Woods always pays attention to character development and this was no exception. The characters were believable and interesting, the story was fast paced without loose or dead ends. An enjoyable read.
"Dark Harbor" is the 12th Stone Barrington novel by Stuart Woods. Barrington and his former NYPD partner believe that it is a triple murder by the position of the gun. They also learn that Dick was a high ranking CIA officer from Lance Cabot. They think it could be work related. There are 4 other murders and a kidnapping on the island. Stone, Dino, and the local policeman, Young, solve the murders. This is an entertaining murder mystery even though it is not Woods' best effort.
