This is one of several books in the Library of Contemporary of Architects series published by Simon & Schuster in the early 1970s. This one, published in 1971, provides a good overview of Paul Rudolph's career with nice photographs by Yukio Fatagwa and an detailed essay by Rupert Spade. Content wise, the book is essentially a rehash of another book called The Architecture of Paul Rudolph, which appeared just a year earlier. Rudolph's projects represented in this book are nearly identical to those shown in the other one. The exception here is that, unlike The Architecture of Paul Rudolph, Rudolph's drawings aren't shown at all, and only a few of his Florida houses are shown here as well. Was it necessary to publish this book despite coming out on the heels of the other one? The short answer is probably yes. Fatagwa's photographs capture the details of Rudolph's designs very nicely, while Spade's essay provides a unique analysis on where Rudolph fits into the context of modern architecture.
