Maia–wet nurse to Tutankhamun. Listen to books in audio format instead of reading.

Tutankhamun wished to be seen to demonstrate the royal family’s renewed loyalty and largesse to Amun, the God of the city, and the priests who owned and administered his temples, in the construction of new monuments and ever more ambitious and glorious temple buildings. For these, great numbers of engineers, artisans and especially labourers were required, whose shanties and settlements had sprung up around the temples, pushing the city’s boundary further into the cultivation.

Tutankhamun is introduced in one of the last scenes of the book, though as the son of the King Akhenaten, he is then known as Tutankhaten. What makes the dynamic intriguing at the opening of this narrative is the fact that as a dynastic couple, Tutankhamun and Ankhesenamun represent two strands of the royal family.

Tutankhamun's status as ancient Egypt’s most famous pharaoh was cemented when his intact tomb was discovered by archaeologist Howard Carter in November 1922. But how much do you know about the famous 'boy king'? Egyptologist Joyce Tyldesley brings you the facts about King Tut.

Tutankhamun, son of Akhenaten, has inherited an empire that seems to be at the height of its power and international glory. But the young King, just eighteen years old, is faced with the political and personal intrigues and conspiracies of the Court, where his godfather Ay, and the General Horemheb are locked in a bitter struggle for ascendancy. Tutankhamun must steer the empire back from the brink of disaster and dissent to which his father Akhenaten's rule led the Two Lands of Egypt, and re-assert the stability and authority of his famous dynasty.

Tutankhamun (/ˌtuːtənkɑːˈmuːn/, Ancient Egyptian: twt-ꜥnḫ-jmn), Egyptological pronunciation Tutankhamen (British /ˌtuːtənkɑːˈmən/) (c. 1342 – c. 1325 BC. . 1325 BC), was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who was the last of his royal family to rule during the end of the 18th dynasty (ruled c. 1334 – 1325 BC in the conventional chronology) during the New Kingdom of Egyptian history. His father was the pharaoh Akhenaten, believed to be the mummy found in the tomb KV55.
