Sergei Vasilyevich Vonsovsky (also spelled as Vonsovskii or Vonsovskiy, Russian: Сергей Васильевич Вонсовский; August 20, 1910 – August 11, 1998) was a prominent Soviet and Russian physicist. Sergei Vonsovsky was born in 1910 in Tashkent. In 1932 he graduated from the Leningrad University. In 1932 he moved to Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) and started working at the Ural Physicotechical Institute, later – at the Metals Physics Institute of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

A comparison is given of the fundamental works of S. V. Vonsovskii on the many-electron polar and s-d (f) exchange models with the subsequent development of the theory of magnetism of transition and rare-earth metals and their compounds

A comparison is given of the fundamental works of S. Vonsovskii on the many-electron polar and s-d (f) exchange models with the subsequent development of the theory of magnetism of transition and rare-earth metals and their compounds. Special attention is given to the derivation of different many-electron models (Heisenberg, Hubbard, Anderson) and to the interrelation between them.

Until recently, in the treatment of magnetic interaction in problems of the quantum theory of a solid body, no notice has been taken of the fact that the contribution to the energy from this inter- action is not exhausted by quasicoulomb terms or by exchange (magnetic} terms alone. In particular, Holstein and Primakoff 2, for example, give a calculation only of the quasiclassical terms in the magnetic part of the energy of a ferromagnetic.
