Mine's the Best book. I like Crosby Bonsall a lot but these little kids are jerks. I think that's the lesson, in part, because they're missing so much just trying to one-up each other.

Mine's the Best was written by Crosby Bonsall,. The next thing is the two boys walking away arm in arm stating "Ours was the best". This is a good story that shows how important trival things are to children and how quickly they forget and move on. This book is recommended for ages 3 - 5 and I don't believe children in this age bracket would ever interpret anything about fighting, hatred or sexual innuendo.

In the last few pages of this book, a girl walks by the two main characters as they are fighting. The caption beneath the first picture where the girl walks into the frame is "She thinks she's smart." Under the second picture where the girl responds by sticking out her tongue, it says "I hate her!"
Really? It is absolutely inappropriate for a child to be taught that intelligence and self-confidence, especially in a girl, deserve name-calling and "nasty woman" style vitriol. This book went straight into the recycling bin. I refuse to propagate these outdated attitudes on a new generation.

We bought at the recommendation of "How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons". This is a cute book and great for a beginning reader. My daughter really enjoyed reading this book and even laughed at certain parts. The only negative I have is that one child says he hates another child, I really didn't like my daughter reading that and thinking that is an ok thing to say to another child.

My son is struggling with reading - and he HATES first reader books (I'm not a fan either - if someone has any other suggestions, I'm open). When I told him we were going to read this book he yelled and screamed - wanted to know why these babies needed 'swimmies' - by the end we were both laughing hysterically. What a hoot of a book! The pictures tell a great story and for a 7-year old boy - reading 'Yours is dead.' I don't think it gets better than that. This is by far, the most entertaining of all first reader books I've ever encountered.

The book is about two kids in a prolonged fight that includes hitting and other bad behavior. Why would I want to read this to my kids?

The book, Mine's the Best, has been a favorite of my children's, since they were toddlers. The illustrations are bright with color and had my two laughing, as I read the book to them. It is a simple story, with a wonderful message. I have bought two more copies for my grandkids and have just purchased a third for my up and coming Great Nephew.

Too negative. Teaches how to read and how to be rude. Well, it basically says being rude is okay.
One of best kid's books ever. My grown children still quote from it and laugh about it.
