Adolf Muschg was born in Zollikon, canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Eine Geschichte von Parzival, 1993. Herr, was fehlt euch?

Adolf Muschg was born in Zollikon, canton of Zurich, Switzerland. He studied German studies, English studies and philosophy at the universities of Zürich and Cambridge and earned his doctoral degree with a work about Ernst Barlach. Between 1959 and 1962 he worked as a teacher in Zürich. The book pointed out the supposedly cancer-causing lifestyle of Zurich’s wealthy gold coast and provoked a scandal in Switzerland; its author died of cancer before its release. Muschg was also provocative with works like Wenn Auschwitz in der Schweiz liegt ("If Auschwitz were in Switzerland"). Herr, was fehlt euch?

Oxford, Bodleian Library, Douce 308 (hereafter GB-Ob Douce 308) is a large book with a complex mixture of contents, including Old French narratives in verse and prose, and a section of over 500 lyrics arranged by genre into seven sections. The lyrics make it one of the most extensive trouvère collections, although its place in scholarship dealing with courtly song does not reflect this.
