The catalogue presents Thompson’s fuse paintings, complex large-scale vertical stripe works in which paint is mixed and mixes optically in ways that complicate any presence of edge, colour separation, spatial depth, or emergence of line. The hovering groundless flicker and undulating colour resonances of these works is most pertinently active in their encounter, in moving across the work, and in the horizontal cutting of their image surfaces.
