Climate Change and Environmental Impacts. The past year has been a momentous one in South Africa, marked in particular by the open split within the political ranks of Afrikanerdom and the formal announcement of plans to give Coloureds and Indians some representation in government. In political terms, the government has progressed almost to the stage it had reached prior to 1948. But this shift is based on a cumulation of social and economic trends that make South African society today very different from what it was in 1948 when the National Party first came to power.
I have some data from a previous project on climate change-related beliefs and attitudes in Nigeria, part of which I have recently published. I am interested in collecting similar data in Eastern and Southern Africa for a comparative study of public attitudes toward climate change across Africa.

I felt it important to present a different narrative about apartheid-South Africa: not told from a point of view of a black person suffering under that loathsome policy; but from the point of view of a young white journalist, with a strong social conscience, who passionately hates what the policy is doing to his country and its people, and faces the dire.
The African National Congress (ANC) is the current governing party of the Republic of South Africa. The ANC was founded in 1912 in Bloemfontein and is the oldest liberation movement in Africa. As a resistance movement, the ANC was predated by a number of black resistance movements, among them Umkosi Wezintaba, formed in South Africa between 1890 and 1920. The organisation was initially founded as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) on in Bloemfontein on 8 January 1912.
